BREAKING: Cops Charge Teenage Couple for Alleged Abortion After Pre-Term Birth
A teenage girl called 911 after giving birth at home, early in her third trimester. First responders were able to revive the infant.
Her teenaged boyfriend allegedly told an officer that the couple had obtained mifepristone and misoprostol, and that she had allegedly taken the medications to end her pregnancy. For this, Cops charged him with negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
The girl, who only weeks ago turned 18, was then arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
*Self-managed abortion is not a crime in North Carolina.
Neither mifepristone nor misoprostol is toxic to a fetus.
Mifepristone blocks progesterone. Misoprostol induces contractions (labor). Both drugs act upon the pregnant personâs own body.
The drugs are used in a two-drug regimen to empty the uterus via inducing labor and delivery.
Early in pregnancy, this is referred to as medication abortion.
At term, to kick start live birth, this is referred to as induction of labor. â Because, again, neither drug is toxic to a fetus.
In both cases, contractions empty the uterus.
Are we supposed to believe that teenaged girlsâ uteruses are âdeadly weaponsâ? Or are we supposed to pretend that mifepristone and misoprostol are toxic to fetuses, when we know that's not true?
Each of the teens appeared in court today. Referring to the teenage girl, the public defender told the court that she âdid exactly what we would expect her to do, which is getting care for her childâ (by calling 911).
Thankfully, the prosecutor seems to have more sense than the cops who arrested these kids. âWhat I can say is that I have been on the record over and over again saying I believe a woman has the right to choose and has the right to make decisions about her own body, and we will review the evidence in this case in that light,â she said.
That cops charged two teenagers with crimes because one of them allegedly tried to end her own pregnancy early shows why cops have no business investigating pregnancy outcomes and why Fetal Personhood ideology is so dangerous.
Unfortunately, even though the now-mom called 911 for help, her arrest may affect her parental rights, both for in regards to this child and any subsequent children she may have, for decades to come â regardless of whether she used abortion medications or not.
