In the wake of the 2022 Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade, President Biden's administration issued federal guidance reminding emergency room staff and hospitals that, in instances where a patient needs an emergency abortion, healthcare professionals and hospitals are protected by federal law called the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) from being prosecuted under state abortion bans for performing emergency abortions. The guidance also reminded hospitals and healthcare providers that, under EMTALA, patients have a right to receive treatment.
Today, Trump rescinded that federal guidance.
Opponents of sexual and reproductive health and (human) rights (SRHR) have been fighting to strip pregnant human beings of their right to life-saving healthcare that is guaranteed to them by EMTALA, which I have written about at length. At least three of the Supreme Court's conservative supermajority justices are itching to force hospitals to let pregnant patients die. Stripping pregnant human beings of their right to life-saving healthcare that is guaranteed to them by EMTALA is also a goal of Project 2025, Republicans’ authoritarian blueprint for America that Trump pretended to know nothing about during his presidential campaign - despite his past high praise for Project 2025.
The goal of the anti-choice movement is and has always been, though strategically buried for a time beneath pseudo-compassionate slogans and concessions for the “life of the mother,” to eliminate all abortions, for all people, in all circumstances. This inescapable fact is one of the main reasons why I left the so-called “pro-life” movement. — They simply do not care if people die.
Today’s rescission of the 2022 EMTALA guidance - which is already being praised by anti-choice activists, groups, and lawmakers - is just another reminder that “pro-life” is, in actuality, a pro-death, pro-maiming, and anti-human fetish.
Trump should be in prison. His niece Mary Trump cannot stand him. She has a Substack live stream at 5 pm Eastern on most days. Pro Life is pro 🐂 💩 It has never been about life ever. Only control.
Trump like all these other republicans are psychopaths. Joni Ernst comes to mind here. They are totally void of empathy, compassion and integrity above everything else. The Republican Party doesn’t exist anymore and it will be a long time before I vote for them. Possibly not ever.
