"Pro-life" movement celebrates demise of agency that saved millions of babies’ lives

For more than 60 years, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has “developed programs and partnerships to save the lives of women, newborns, and children,”1 focused on the mission of ensuring “[a] world where healthy and well-nourished women, newborns, and children have the same chance of survival, regardless of where they are born.”2 USAID's work in the area of maternal and child health and nutrition has improved access to critical health and nutrition services, life-saving vaccines, and safe drinking water. For example, USAID has “enabled more than 17 million people to gain access to basic drinking water since 2012.”3 Additionally, USAID has helped prevent malnutrition during and after pregnancy for both mom and baby; as well as prevent and manage “wasting,” which is the deadliest form of malnutrition. In 2019, for example, USAID:

“supported more than 84 million women & children to access essential— and often lifesaving—care”;4
“helped to protect more than 882 million children with vaccines, saving more than 14 million lives, through the U.S. Government’s contribution to Gavi”;5
and “reached more than 27 million children with nutrition programs.”6

All of that life-saving work has now come to a screeching halt.

Like a comic book villian, the world's greediest White Supremacist - aided by his pack of hostile hackers barely aged out of the Hitler jungen, as well as the weakling coconspirator at the helm of the U.S. State Department - has unleashed a wrecking ball against the USAID, with the support of der Orange Führer.

And those in the “pro-life” movement are celebrating the agency's destruction.

Why? Because the perpetually conspiritorial and hastily suspicious imaginations characteristic of those in the American “pro-life” movement (and yes, this includes my own pattern of thinking during the time that I was a part of the movement) have lead to years of fevered accusations that USAID is funding and promoting abortions. (“If I feeeeeel like that's happening, then it must be happening !”) Hence, the American “pro-life” movement have long captive to a reactionary, single-minded, burning opposition to the agency that has saved millions of lives— those lives be damned.

Following the announcement by the world's greediest White Supremacist that USAID would be shuttered, cutting off life-saving aid to millions of people the world over, leaders in the “pro-life” movement were elated. For example:

Kristan Hawkins, the pathological liar who heads the unscrupulous organization Students for Life of America, declared on X that the demolishing the USAID is “a win for life.”7 “Trump and Musk just shut down USAID—the same agency Biden used to fund abortion in Africa under the guise of 'aid,’” she proclaimed.8
In response to the American public's negative reaction to the dismantling of USAID, Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation claimed that “the Left hates actual transparency and accountability.”9 (Because every American opposed to cutting off USAID to millions of people must be “the left” and must be opposed to government accountability. 🙄)
“You want food aid and primary health care? Start aborting, sterilizing and contracepting your women first, then we'll talk, says USAID,” the President of the right-wing Population Institute, Stephen Mosher, said sardonically, attempting to justify the demolition of an agency that has saved millions of lives.10
“Elon Musk Confirms Trump Admin Shutting Down Pro-Abortion USAID,” a LifeNews headline announced triumphantly.11

What does demolishing an agency that has saved millions of lives have to do with being for life? What does cutting off life-saving aid to millions of people worldwide have to do with being for life? What does cutting off life-saving aid to women, babies, and children have to do with being for life?— NOTHING. “Pro-life” has always been a misnomer, and that's more evident now than ever before.
